13. Weaving Baskets
Do I inspire you or your child? Would you mind filling out this survey for me? Artsonia Nomination
We will be weaving paper, newspaper, and/or magazines to create that basket for this weekend's holiday egg hunt or picking fruit off the tree in the front yard. You'll need scissors, glue, a marker and a stapler. If you have been with me in my second grade class, we have done some weaving before.
First you'll need to take a piece of paper. Hold it landscape style and then fold it out doing a hamburger fold, forming a crease. (make sure to kiss the corners).
Draw at least five lines, like I did that touch the crease (not the open side).
Turn you paper so it's like a taco and cut up the line.
If you need to, number the columns one, two, three, four, and five. If you remember, we drew circles around the odds and triangles around the even numbers.
Take another paper and hotdog fold it twice. Cut up the creases to form the strips of paper.
Take a strip and weave it in and out and in and out. You can staple or glue them down. Make sure to push the strips close enough so their corners touch.
The basket making is the hardest part. I folded each side of my paper inwards at the two square mark. (it works best if you watch the video on this part). I drew a line two squares in on each crease. I folded the middle portion up and then folded the sides in like a barn door. If you have a stapler, staple it. If you have some glue, glue it together, but hold each corner together for a minute. Tape works well too.
You can add a handle to your basket by stapling or gluing the strip on the inner wall of the middle of your basket.
Take a photo of it and upload it to artsonia 000 - Hey kids turn it in here or take a photo of it and send it to me via seesaw or email it to me at [email protected]
Good luck!!
