Middle SchoolIntroduction to Digital Media Art: Keystone School’s Middle School Introduction to Digital Media Artoffers Seventh Grade students their first introduction to Graphic Design and Digital Art. The class meets every day for 50 minutes for nine weeks. Students are exposed to a wide variety of traditional studio master painters, contemporary photographers and pop culture graphic designers, who serve as inspiration for students to create personalized two dimensional and three dimensional multimedia projects. Projects are normally completed in one to three class periods. The intent is for students to begin to develop and share the concept of self, personality and voice, through creations that reflect their interests and beliefs, while furthering their understanding of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Skills, techniques, and concepts are emphasized through the use of the different digital media tools and creative technology. Student assessment is determined by teacher observation, student led discussions, a demonstration of mastery of skills and techniques emphasized through the completion of the project and a written artist statement. A digital portfolio of each student’s work is kept and shared with the parents.
